Throughout this Blog, I will make many references to G-d. As you might have guessed, this is my spelling of the word God. In fact, I intend that the full spelling of G-d be as rare as possible.

Throughout time, mankind has used G-d’s real full name in a far too callous sense. We misuse it, and thus sin because there are only two proper ways to refer to G-d,

  1. To Him: When talking to, praying to, etc. G-d’s full name can be used.
  2. About Him: When teaching others about G-d, much how I am using His name now.

I fear using G-d’s full name improperly because we should always avoid sin and thus treat His name with the greatest reverence possible. Let me give you an example of how Saint Augustine opens to G-d in his book ‘The Confessions’, a real classic.

“Great are you, O Lord, and exceedingly worthy of praise, your power is immense, and your wisdom is beyond reckoning. And so we humans, who are a due part of your creation, long to praise you — we who carry our mortality about with us, carry the evidence of our sin and with it the proof that you thwart the proud.” - St. Augustine, The Confessions, Chapter 1.

Throughout this blog, it would be impossible to refer to G-d with such splendor as He deserves every time I type His name. So as an exercise of caution and preservation of His most Holy name, I will stick to using G-d in my writing.
