Years ago, we received children as blessings, and now-a-days we receive children as a burden. Years ago, we applauded the news that a woman was with child, and now-a-days we laugh at those who are grief-stricken at the same news. Years ago, children were viewed as G-d’s love abundant in out lives, and now-a-days we view children as sending us to the poor-house. Years ago, we lived in a culture of life where the other person was more important than the self, and now-a-days we live in a culture of death that puts the self’s interests and desires ahead of everyone else’s.

G-d blesses those who see children as blessings, applaud others who are blessed with a new baby, view children as G-d’s love in the flesh, and see the sacrifices needed to raise children as being more important than the self. For as Christ teaches us, the greatest love is that of a sacrificial love — to lay down one’s life for the sake of one other.
